Nick’s Stag 08

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

german nickVielen Dank alle und gute Nacht! Is presumably what Nick would have said had he actually been able to speak German, rather than just look the part. But none could deny it was a look he wore well. To recap, the gentlemen of Potters Bar set sail for Tallinn, Estonia. Most likely the furthest East many of the men had been, but like the brave faced Englishmen that they are, they kept a stiff upper lip and dug deep into the reserves and faced the cold, Russian front with honour and distinction.

Camping

Thursday, September 1st, 2005 at 9:09 pm

For the second year in succession, we visited Bridport, Dorset for a bank holiday weekend of camping delights. Quite why we visited the exact same place two years running I am not too sure. But having fulfilled my organisation quota this year with Tenerife, I was steering well clear of the hornets nest that is Gomez-with-an-idea. We had slightly fewer men this time round but our location was vastly more horizontal, which is definitely what you want when you lying next to a South African ox. The neighbouring fields, which were empty last year, were full of bovine beasts this time and it is surprising just how much noise they make. Normally when I see cows it’s alongside motorways and they seem quite silent creatures. But spending a night in a field next to them you find they actually flood the night air with hideous sounds, one might associate with Gomez finding the fridge empty.

Tenerife 05

Thursday, August 11th, 2005 at 8:46 pm

July 8th, it seems like so long ago now. Twas the date we set sail for the Canary Islands. Many people had said they would be coming with us, but in the end, it was survival of the fittest and six of us managed to make it. I have all but settled back into the daily drudgery, but thankfully, we have a few photos taken with some disposable cameras, to remind of us of a few quality nights out.

There are a few interesting stories I could tell but unfortunately we decided that it be best to not make those who wussed out feel too disappointed, so we introduced

Law-o-the-Stag

A pact that prevents us from going into detail about any event that occurred. We (I) have decided that it is acceptable to let everyone see the pics though! What happened on the island stays on the island. Read the rest of this entry »

Amsterdam

Friday, February 18th, 2005 at 2:17 pm

So here it is people, Amsterdam. I think this time I have truly outdone myself. I have uploaded in excess of 610 photos for you to trawl through. It was a mammoth task. In the beginning I was not sure I could even locate them and once I had, the actual procedure of transferring them was rather large. And not to mention the fact that my web site running costs are now like to increase by a factor of about ten! But despite all this, it had to be done. the boysYou see, every picture is equally important; each one tells its own tale. Every single digital still you are about to witness represented a carefree time in our lives, a utopian time when we were all invincible (except when Stacey threw a wobbly). The photos give us an opportunity to re-visit not just old friends, places but more importantly memories of feelings we seldom experience in the day-to-day. From the care-free folics at the airport to the friendly face of the Dutch cabbie, to the creature comforts of our hotel rooms to the warm smiles of the ladies of the night. Or who can remember the pain of watching England get knocked out of the Euro 2004 in an Irish bar, or the time when Neil dressed up in Clara's pyjamas, or the time when James left the land of the living, or the sheer pugnacious spirit of Neil; I could go on all day. I feel it is no over-exaggeration when I say that these photos are a holiday in themselves. The photos are divided into 6 roughly equal sections. Read the rest of this entry »
